To be honest, I quite like Harry Eastwood's vegetable book although it is a bit gimmicky but Gizzi on Cookery School ringing a stupid school bell every five minutes to call time on the contestants was beyond irritating.

I think it's hilarious how you've still called this "advanced" but taken all the advanced bits out!!!! At least you cooked something from it, I wasn't inspired by the desserts/baking in there although I could see the merit in the book as whole. But I don't want to get all cheffy personally...Sarah, Maison Cupcakehttp://blog.maisoncupcake.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4691966360028175204.post-19250617067908699952011-05-15T01:52:50.040+01:002011-05-15T01:52:50.040+01:00Mr P, your "advanced" cake looks scrumpt...Mr P, your "advanced" cake looks scrumptious! Also wanted to tell you about an upcoming food event in Wales! September 8. You can read what it's all about in my current 13 May blog post. I just attended one two days before that. Too fun! Wish I could go to the one in Wales.Jean | Delightful Repasthttp://delightfulrepast.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4691966360028175204.post-15533950881565658642011-05-11T19:01:00.410+01:002011-05-11T19:01:00.410+01:00Ha! However, after my review, I managed to catch a few episodes of the TV programme (I was on holiday)and it made alot more sense. Actually Gizzi Erskine was fab, Richard Corrigan was a pain in the bum! The contestants were pretty awful, but it was still compulsive viewing.
I'm giving my copy to my son who likes to cook, I think the step by steps will be good for him as they are too basic for me.Janicehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04854564777269577428noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4691966360028175204.post-52602661880179019462011-05-10T21:13:57.000+01:002011-05-10T21:13:57.000+01:00Love your blog, and the honest review of the book,...Love your blog, and the honest review of the book, but you need to give poor Harry a break! :)

I'm pretty severely lactose intolerant, so having a variety of options when it comes to butter substitution is great- and any of the cakes i've tried from her "Red velvet and chocolate heartache book" have been fantastic.
